FAC Students Organise "Think + Talk with Ally Iskandar"
On 14 September 2017, a group of students from the Faculty of Applied Communication organized an event, "Think + Talk with Ally Iskandar". Mr. Ally Iskandar, Executive Producer of Media Prima, was invited to share his experience and discuss strategic communication in corporate settings. The main purpose of the event was to have attendees learn how to apply the interpersonal communication techniques they’ve learned.
Infused with humor, Ally’s talk illustrated how conflict and disagreement could be crucial parts in achieving effective communication. Ally stated in his talk, ‘Productive communication doesn’t require agreement, in fact, some of the best talk shows that I have hosted had involved disagreement. And that’s to be expected when you work with smart people who have strong opinions and viewers with high expectations. But in order to have productive discussions and keep your team moving forward after the conflict, people need to feel heard and appreciated”.
Ally further mentioned that we need to pitch our ideas daily, regardless of whether we are in sales or not. Promotions, new projects, and new jobs are among events that require us to influence and convince others. Ally shared some tips on how to rework stories and how they could help in getting us closer to our goals. The entertaining and interactive session was very well received by the audience, and they enthusiastically took the opportunity to play all sorts of questions to Ally on his journey in corporate media. We hope our students have learned a lot, and will one day embark on their own magnificent journey.
