MMU Students Won Debat Piala Menteri Besar Johor 2017
Four MMU students, including three from Faculty of Law and one from Faculty of Engineering have made us proud when they won the Debat Piala Menteri Besar Johor 2017 competition in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor. They were Arfazur Rasyeed Jaafar bin Abdullah, Amirul Asyraaf bin Mohd Alwi, Mohd Faizul lzwan bin Mohd Nordin and Mohd Hafizul lkhwan bin Ridzuan were competing for the Bahasa Malaysia Debate Team. The winning team was supervised and advised by Dr. Abdullah Sallehuddin bin Abdullah Salim from FOM in Cyberjaya and Mdm Fauzianita from STAD in Melaka. The competition was organised by the Office of YAB Dato' Menteri Besar Johor,Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (YPJ), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTMJ, Kelab Debat, Pidato, dan Pemikiran Kreatif UTM (De'PiKir), Persatuan Anak Johor UTM ( SEJATI),and Alumni Debat IPTJohor (ADIJohor) from 16 to 19 November 2017.
During the competition, the team met with several higher learning institution debate powerhouses like University of Malaya (UM), UniversitiTeknologi Petronas (UTP), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), and the host - Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) ; before defeating the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in the final match. As a champion, the team brought home a winning cash prize of RM 6,000.00 and trophies as well as the prestigious Piala YAB Dato'Menteri Besar Johor.
Commenting on the recent achievement at Johor, both advisors dedicated the success of the solid tripartite partnership - the students (debaters), the university and the alumni. The team spent nearly the whole trimester break for mock and friendly debates, researches, facts findings,and team training. Besides that, the team also received strong support from two alumni, Mr. Muhammad Rafiq Akmal bin Mohd Daud (Faculty of Law, class 2009-2014) and Mr.Ahmad Hazwan bin Hamdan (Faculty of Law, class 2011-2015). Both of them also represented MMU Bahasa Malaysia debate team while reading law during the period.
