MMU IS THE FIRST UNIVERSITY TO ADOPT MCMC'S MIV PROGRAMME
On 18 April 2018, Multimedia University (MMU) became the first university in Malaysia to collaborate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under the Malaysia ICT Volunteer (MIV) programme in MMU Cyberjaya. The volunteers,a total of 50 students from MMU signed up for the programme to help in elevating the digital literacy development among the community.The MIV aims to empower Malaysians to become digital citizens besides supporting the 'Smart Digital Nation' initiative.It focuses on four focus groups namely MIV with community,MIV withschool,MIV with Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) and MIV with International ICT Volunteers (llV).
The voluntary programme is scheduled with volunteers'workshop from the 20th until 22ndApril 2018 and they are expected to engage with the local community in the following week until early June 2018. The volunteers need to impart the positive use of ICT knowledge and encourage digital adoption among the community.The programme will be conducted in Pusat Internet 1Malaysia (Pl1M) in Selangor and Melaka. Upon successful completion of the programme,the volunteers will be granted with points under the Student Activity Performance System (SAPS) by the university. The programme also cemented a recognition to MCMC through its curriculum module under the Student Affair Division (STAD).
The MIV with IHE programme also serves as one of the channels to foster the spirit of volunteerism among Malaysian students and as one way to give back to the community through various projects that will be implemented by MIV MMU volunteers at selected Pl1Ms and its surrounding areas.Also present in the launching ceremony were Datuk Dr. Mazlan Ismail,the Chief Operating Officer of MCMC,the MMU management committees and staff.
