Centre for Alumni Hosts Alumni Vibes Legal Talk

Centre for Alumni (CfA) kicked off its first session of Alumni Vibes with an interesting and insightful topic entitled “Legal Talk: What you don’t know CAN hurt you” on 24th February 2021. Co-organised with the Faculty of Law (FOL), two MMU alumni were invited to be the speakers namely Mr. Francis Augustine Soosay and Ms Hashvini Rekha Pachappan. Mr Francis earned his degree in Bachelor of Law (Honours) from the Faculty of Law, Class of 2008 and Ms Hashvini is a graduate of L.L.B. (Hons) from the Faculty of Law, Class of 2015. More than 500 people followed the session through MMU Facebook Live and the number kept rising up to this date.

Throughout the one-hour session, the speakers enlightened the audience on several trending topics especially on cyberlaw or online freedom of speech, exotic animals law, online child predators and others. The speakers also shared some tips on defamation and slander online. The session was moderated by Ms. Nurul Athirah Ja’afar, who is our student from FOL. It is important for us to be aware of the laws as it can keep us safe and help us to defend ourselves when we need to.
