Centre for Alumni presents the first episode of Legal Talk Mini Series featuring Dr. Nithiya Thiahhan, an active lawyer in the Malaysian Bar council for the Selangor state government and Permata Dunia from the Faculty of Law, Class of 2009. The event was moderated by Nur Shafiqah Shafiyah Omar, a final year student of Faculty of Law. In this short session, we were given the opportunity to gain a better understanding on the topic of Domestic Violence from Dr Nithiya. During the 30 minute session, she explains that whilst domestic violence predates the movement control order in light, it is becoming more serious as victims of domestic violence would feel more trapped with their abuser seeing as they have no means of escape from their current situation.
However, Dr Nithiya also tells us that lawyers within the country are more than willing to help victims get the justice that they deserve from the various established hotlines that the government has provided and how they can help their situation through these methods. The event was held live on MMU’s YouTube channel MMUTVMalaysia.
